UNique. UNited. UNstoppable.: The URBAN NATION MUSEUM opens

On 16th September the URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART is opening in Berlin-Schöneberg! Considering popping in, but aren’t sure what to expect? We’ve collated all the most important information surrounding the opening, the art-mile and the museum.

When does the museum open?
The museum rooms in Bülowstraße will be opened to the public on 16th September at 19:00. Art enthusiasts, neighbors and all those who are interested can access the new museum. Inside, brand new pieces by renowned artists are awaiting visitors: International stars like Shepard Fairey and well-known Berlin artists, such as Mimi S and 1 UP, have created artwork especially for the opening show „UNique. UNited. UNstoppable.“

Where is the Museum?
The URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART is opening in a refurbished, historical building at Bülowstraße 7. Incidentally the building is consistent with the artwork… UNique: Following their cutting-edge plans for the URBAN NATION MUSEUM, the architecture office GRAFT worked on the property. From the dynamic façade panels to the use of a road surface as the museum floor: The URBAN NATION MUSEUM is unique.

How’s the opening being celebrated?
URBAN NATION operates under three key concepts: Connect. Create. Care. For us, that means we want to encourage dialogue between residents, creative individuals and guests. Therefore along with the opening of the museum itself, we are also celebrating an art-mile, a street party organized by Gewobag.

What is the art-mile?
Between Nollendorfplatz and Bülowstraße underground stations in Berlin-Schöneberg, on the evening of the opening, from 19:00 – 22:00 and on the 17th September from 10:00 – 18:00, some activities are being provided.

Different art instillations and performances will be shown under the tracks between the two underground stations. We have prepared hand-on activities, such as community walls, for everyone who wants to get (artistically) involved. If you want to take a break away from the festive hustle and bustle: With open-air Yoga in the skate park you can let yourself relax.

Sounds great – where can I sign up?
Good news: You don’t have to sign up, register or buy any tickets. We’re looking forward to celebrating the opening with anyone who wants to get involved.

Is there something that, as a visitor, I should consider?
For safety reasons, large bags and backpacks are not allowed at the opening. Depending on how many guests attend the opening festivities, there may be waiting times. We hope you understand.

We’ve also produced an Art-Map of the art-mile, so you can get an overview of all the artwork on display. You can download it, free here.
