Biography / Mimi S

Working for film and design-agencies as an illustrator and animator, German artist Mimi Scholz never had the intention of becoming part of the art scene. With roots in traditional art and animation, she started using her computer as an artistic tool in the early 2000’s, re-drawing her pencil drawn illustrations on a graphic tablet. Mimi’s works are featured in the URBAN NATION 2018 exhibition, ‘UN-DERSTAND The Power of Art as a Social Architect’.

Despite being digital paintings, Mimi’s artworks are based on analogue pencil and ink illustrations, which she considers to be the most creative part of the process of creating a digital painting. Her paintings are then printed on museum quality paper, laminated on Dibond panels and hand sealed with an acrylic varnish on her own. Her bigger pieces, some of them spanning two meters or more in length, take up to six months to finalize.

Mimi S’ paintings often have a strong dynamic and tell interesting stories, showing groups of women and sarcastically poking the clichés of the female sexuality, beauty and psyche.
