SCOPE Art Show x URBAN NATION MUSEUM – The collaboration invites you to its panels, open discussions and shows during Art Basel 2018

URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART deepens it ties with the Street Art and New Contemporary genres, partnering with SCOPE Art Show, and presents a various public program.
In close proximity to Art Basel, one of the most significant fairs for Modern and contemporary art, SCOPE International Contemporary Art Show presents young, aspiring international newcomers to the international art scene in a curated program of the highest standard from June 12 to 17. On its 18th anniversary SCOPE collaborates with the Berlin URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART. For both institutions this collaboration serves as a profound source of inspiration, reinforcing their long-standing focus on Urban Art and young contemporary art.
URBAN NATION and SCOPE capture the most recent developments in the field of art with curated events including art shows, panels and discussions. This year’s focus of Urban Art allows the fair and the museum to address socio-political issues surrounding the deluge of images and media, the shift in global alliances, art in public space, communal commitment and the role of women. While art and politics have always been inseperable, it is nevertheless this genre that takes up issues and conflicts within societies, conspicuously intervening in urban habitats. Artistic practice becomes a mouthpiece of political protest. It is meant to be seen.
It is meant to educate, enlighten, disabuse. Currently relevant subjects and content are translated into artworks that critique, expose and denounce – and always testify to their supreme aesthetic quality. URBAN NATION lends a multicultural platform to this global movement while uniting the current artistic positions and subjects under one roof. Since September 2017 the international institution URBAN NATION is a trendsetter within Berlin’s cultural landscape. What began as a vision has become reality: the museum has grown to be the centerpiece of a worldwide network of urban art that inspires us to rediscover the city, to change it and to offer new talents a stage on which to perform.
With this collaboration URBAN NATION takes another step into the future while letting a large international art audience participate in its concept and vision. Executive creative director Yasha Young has curated a high-quality exhibition at SCOPE Basel with works by Ben Frost, Bustart, Chromeo, Cranio, DotDotDot, Emanuel Roth, Haroshi, Herakut and Mia Florentine Weiss from the unique URBAN NATION museum collection. “It is important to conduct the discourse on Urban Art and its work with the international and art historical context in the public eye, providing all participants with the space to express themselves and afford insights into their workings, respectively. Innovative and progressive partnerships of not-for-profit organisations, art projects as well as for-profit enterprises create a common ground for growth, education and added value – particularly for the genre of Urban Contemporary Art”, explains Yasha Young the value of partnering with SCOPE.
Referencing ongoing debates from within the Urban Art context, the additional program of June 14 and 15 offers a platform for exchange and discussions.Together URBAN NATION and SCOPE not only invigorate the role of artists but lend relevance to the urban artistic expression while treating the genre as the equal of other artistic disciplines.
