Closed due to reconstruction work

The URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART is currently closed due to renovation work, as there will be a completely new exhibition with many surprises for the visitors. Not only that, but a unique project will literally bring the museum to life.

September 27th 2018 marks the opening of the second big exhibition in the short history of the URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART: “UN—DERSTAND THE POWER OF ART AS A SOCIAL ARCHITECT“. The retrospective show takes the viewer for a walk down memory lane with a timeline of the last five years, interactive segments and remarkable works by over 200 artists that have been created during this time. In this way, URBAN NATION comes up to its educational task by showcasing its comprehensive and valuable archive that documents its own history and that of urban contemporary art as well. Amongst others Adele, Dface, Herakut, James Bullough, London Police, Mimi S and Shepard Fairey are part of it.

Simultaneously, on the day of the second opening, September 27th, the artist residencies with the motto „UN—COVER THE POWER OF ART AS A SOCIAL ARCHITECT“ in the museum will be officially inaugurated. Eleven apartments on the upper floors of the URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART are from then on available for up to 33 artists per year. The spaces provide a refuge from economic constraints, which makes it possible for the artists to fully focus on socially and locally relevant artworks and projects. At regular intervals, a professional jury selects artists from all around the world to receive the residence. Every applicant presents a concept for a project with social impact which they will implement during their stay. The premises will also provide space for encounters and exchange.

In order to prepare all this, the museum is currently closed. The URBAN NATION Museum is already looking forward to opening its doors to all visitors on September 27th.
