Floating Mural by ZEBU

The “Pretty Picture”, created for the Floating Murals series at the Bülow Street Festival by the artist duo ZEBU, @z_e_b_u, takes a bold look at the concept of beauty in art. Using stereotypically “beautiful” imagery like butterflies and flowers, the piece challenges viewers to reflect on how we define and perceive beauty in artistic contexts.

The mural explores the tension between popular and high art. While “beauty” is often seen as a positive quality by those outside the art world, it can carry dismissive connotations within artistic circles. ZEBU’s work questions who holds the authority to define what is “beautiful” or valuable in art, bridging the gap between different interpretations.

By blending vibrant, approachable visuals with this deeper reflection, “Pretty Picture” invites viewers to reconsider their own perceptions and biases about beauty and its role in art.
