URBAN NATION took part! 35 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall – Hold up freedom!
- UN MUSEUM EVENT
- November 21, 2024
As part of a cooperation with Kulturprojekte Berlin and the Berlin Wall Foundation, posters were designed at the URBAN NATION Museum on October 8 and 9, 2024 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989. Pupils from the Katholische Schule Sankt Franziskus, a partner of our Stadtraum!Plus program, and interested museum visitors implemented their statements for freedom and democracy in a very creative and diverse way.
For the pupils, the creative work began with an introduction by historian Christine Burkart from the Berlin Wall Foundation. She reminded them of the historical events surrounding the fall of the Wall and the importance of democratic values. Historical magazines, which were made available to the participants, served as additional inspiration. The result was an interactive project that combined history, art and social commitment.
It was particularly nice that the results could be seen on November 8 and 9, 2024 as part of the open-air installation along a section of the former course of the Wall in Berlin.
Under guidance, the young people were able to use various techniques: Acrylic paint, various colored pens and markers, tape and, last but not least, spray cans.
The posters not only gave the messages great public visibility during the commemoration ceremony, but also encouraged people to uphold and carry on these values in their everyday lives.
We would like to thank our cooperation partners for two days full of creativity and democratic commitment!
