Community Wall by Amber De Saeger & Pi Pa

In early September 2026, a new Community Wall was created in the courtyard at Blasewitzer Ring 13/15 by artists Amber De Saeger from Belgium and Patrycja “Pi Pa” Piwosz from Poland. Both artists are part of the current cohort of the Fresh A.I.R. artist-in-residence program.

The starting point for Amber De Saeger’s design was a workshop with children from the Wunderblume daycare center. The workshop centered on the question: What defines our neighborhood? Together, the children first embarked on an imaginary journey from their homes to the daycare center. They described what they saw along the way, who they met, and which places were important to them. They then mapped out their routes on a large “paper carpet” and used it to collaboratively create a map of their neighborhood. Drawing on the children’s personal observations and imaginations, Amber De Saeger developed the foundation for the design of the Community Wall.

Afterward, the wall itself became a shared workspace: Under the artists’ guidance, the children helped design it. Pi Pa focused in particular on the themes of trees and nature. From many individual contributions, a collaborative mural emerged depicting the children’s places, paths, and imaginations, blending the children’s perspectives with the artistic styles of the two artists. The colors of the wall echo the design of the newly inaugurated playground in the courtyard. The Community Wall thus creates a visual connection between art, play, and everyday life in the neighborhood.

The Community Wall was created as part of a collaboration between Fresh A.I.R. and Stadtraum!Plus, a program of the Berliner Leben Foundation. It combines artistic practice with local participation and highlights the perspectives of the neighborhood’s youngest residents.
