It is impossible to narrow down Sydney-based artist Anthony Lister to just one style or single artistic expression. He paints, but also does sculptures, brings both together in installations and touches everything else from film to virtual reality Anthony Lister is featured in the URBAN NATION 2018 exhibition, ‘UN-DERSTAND The Power of Art as a Social Architect’.
Anthony Lister is widely considered as being Australia’s premier artist when it comes to street art. He started his artistic career painting on the streets at the age of 17 and later enlisted with the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane. His artistic expression though was developed in the years following his graduation. Lister’s work is a non-academic clash of styles, cultures, and techniques; including but not limited to street art, pop art, expressionism. His aesthetics are defined by a radical, grimy and edgy figurative approach that exposes western heritage. As a true ‘anti-designer’, Lister is taking on societies beliefs and deconstructing them in his art.
