American artist Brittany Williams is known for her extraordinary art, created firstly out of her requirement for a release. An athlete-turned-artist from Rochester, NY, Brittany’s art focuses on the lived experiences of her surroundings. She uses subject matter such as everyday people, with lines, patterns, and vivid colour, reflecting on situations that are ever present around her. Brittany’s works are featured as a part of the opening of URBAN NATION Museum in 2017.
She describes herself as ‘an athlete first’ and graduated from the University of Maine after a four-year stint with their Division 1 basketball team. Once it became time to decide what was next, Brittany was faced with the choice to go pro, or to try something new. She would draw out of magazines or the Democrat and Chronicle, copying the people and characters. From then on, she continued drawing in her free time, taking art illustration and AP Art classes in high school. Her inspiration stems from everything, from real world situations, movies, magazines, books and music. Brittany likes listening to the perspective of others on her works, preferring not to explain her artwork.
