Hailing from the Danish island of Funen, Kopenhagen based artist Don John is known for creating memorable artworks, mainly depicting transforming people, animals and nature. Using a mix of thick, black marker lines and a patchwork of black, ink-like, spots he creates rohrschach looking visuals that turn the flat surface they are on into multi-layered facades. Don John’s work was first featured as part of the 2014 URBAN NATION ONE WALL campaign, with him being one oft he first international artists to join the project.
What makes Don John’s work so special is what he calls a „paradoxical relationship between civilization and nature“, often morphing animals and humans into a state of coexistence. The intertwining designs question the reality we assume to be true and will make the viewer want to look twice to understand the artwork as a whole. By doing so he wants to stimulate the thoughts and emotions oft the viewer while shattering the greyness oft he city and every day life.
Among other cities like Reykjavik, New York and Georgetown, Malaysia a sample of his outstanding work and part oft he ONE WALL project can be found at Mehringdamm 29, Berlin.
