Biography / Jolene Lai

Born in Singapore in 1980, artist and illustrator Jolene Lai is based in Los Angeles and primarily working with oil on canvas or mixed media on watercolour paper. She creates works with a seductive aesthetic and subject matter that weaves in emotions of whimsy, melancholy, irony and absurdity. Her works are featured as a part of the opening of URBAN NATION Museum in 2017.

Jolene Lai creates images primarily oil on canvas, with bold use of colour, shape and intricate detail, Lai seeks to engage her audience in works that are approachable, newly imagined spaces that the viewer is invited to explore. Lai studied painting at LASALLE-SIA College in Singapore and graphic design at the UCLA. After graduating she started designing movie posters for a year, but then decided to return her focus on fine art. Since 2007 she participated in many group and solo shows in the US, Asia, Australia and Europe.
