Moscow-born artist Katerina Voronina, who lives in Berlin, won over the jury in a competition organized jointly by URBAN NATION and Amnesty International to create the first German “Brave Wall” in Berlin. Voronina was inspired for her application by the story of human rights defender Marielle Franco, who was murdered in her hometown Rio de Janeiro on March 14, 2018.
Katerina Voronina is known for striking illustrations of city scenes; her drawings, shaped by close observation, focus on urban figures. Her works can be found on walls at playgrounds or in cafes, and her illustrations are published in magazines and books worldwide. Before coming to Berlin in 2018, she worked in Tel Aviv for two years.
