Biography / Keita Morimoto

Keita Morimoto is a Japanese artist, born in Osaka and currently based out of Toronto, Canada. His art has garnered a wide and significant following in the recent years, which involves known for inserting contemporary characters into classical landscapes. Keita’s works are featured in the URBAN NATION 2018 exhibition, ‘UN-DERSTAND The Power of Art as a Social Architect’.

As a graduate from OCAD University, The featured characters you see are from photographs of friends that he then paints and inserts into his cityscapes. Keita will often search for models on Facebook, or call on friends. The styles of his art have an obvious nod to the Dutch masters and the period of Baroque paintings. Many of Keita’s paintings portray the downtown Toronto at night, which allows him to experiment with the juxtaposition of light and dark, creating an atmosphere of isolation in his streetscapes.
