Lars Wunderlich aka LOOK the Weird, is a German contemporary artist based in Berlin. In 2011 he became a founding member of the international graffiti crew and artist collective known as the ‘The Weird’. Wunderlich crafts and paints visual collages. His pieces replicate portraits generated by algorithms, juxtaposing different time elements to cause collisions, distortions and glitches. His work explores the unreal nature of these representations and their insignificance in modern-day society.
Contrasting the tranquil landscapes surrounded by heavy industry with elements from action movies, pop-culture and celebrities, Wunderlich shows the other face of globalization and the mutated reality that comes from it. His paintings bear similarities with the ‘New Leipzig School’, albeit with technology at the core and aesthetics boosted by artificial intelligence and modern faux-semblants. Characteristic of his style are visual distortions and the perpetual collision of images.
His artwork “AM I JUST A CODE FOR YOU?” is in the current exhibition “Talking… & Other Banana Skins“.
