Russ Morland is a Canadian based artist and tattooist who also goes by the name of Lurk. With seemingly colourful works which are aesthetically captivating at a first glance, though the subject matters of nonsensical characters in a number of odd and bizarre environments. Lurk’s works can be found on their collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/13 in 2018.
Morland himself has been involved with art since he was young, first beginning in the grey and wet environment north of England. Morland was a young skateboarder and cites this as his influence in art, “I think skateboarding changed my life for the better, the graphics on the boards, the culture, the music I was introduced to.”
Russ’ inspirations come from artists of which carry a similar style to his own artworks, Texas-born, Malaysia-based artist Frenemy being one. Another a little closer to home, Albert Caine a tattoo artist of which he has been apprentice under before opening his own tattoo store named Electric Umbrella. Ultimately, Morland likes his work to remain fun and to retain its easiness of its content to ensure that the art is enjoyed for what it is.
