Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic make up the Hannover and Berlin-based duo, Quintessenz. With early foundations in graffiti culture and graphic design, the two shapes and patterns typically used in architecture to change the perception of how we see spaces. Quintessenz is part of the class of 2018 in the URBAN NATION Artist in Residence Programme.
Starting out as students at the University of applied Science and Arts in Hildesheim, they developed a unique an unmistakeable signature style.
Space is the fundamental inspiration for Quintessenz, it interferes with its environment, using old buildings as their canvases, with their murals covering entire facades. In public spaces and galleries, their abstract work shares one thing in common: that their art makes and creates space for colour. To Quintessenz, colour is more than an art form. It is the content itself.
