Biography / Sergio Garcia

Sergio Garcia is a Cuban-American artist, sculptor and painter, working and living in Miami. Born in Havana in 1969, he immigrated to the United States with his family when he was two years old. Sergio’s works are featured in the URBAN NATION 2018 exhibition, ‘UN-DERSTAND The Power of Art as a Social Architect’.

In love with art since he can remember, Sergio was granted a full scholarship to study art in the late 1970s, but soon became disenchanted with academia and dropped out. After playing in Miami’s first punk band for almost a decade, he dedicated himself completely to painting when he was 28 years old. “I have always enjoyed the use of the unconventional as a base for my artwork”, says the self-taught artist. His passion is to create a perfect balance of light and shadow. “Without light there is no art. Without art there is no life”, he says.

Garcia’s works can be seen in museums, galleries, corporate and private collections in the U.S. and abroad.
