Biography / SheOne

London born James Choules, who started spray painting under his moniker ‘SheOne’, was part oft he first wave of UK street artists in the early 1980s. His abstract, mostly monochromatic paintings of strokes and splashes, many of contrasting colour schemes like black and white, have earned him fame and recognition across UK borders. SheOne’s work can be found on his collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/5 in 2014.

Originally working exclusively with spray-paints in the streets, Choules managed to transition his unique, fluid style of light and shade from its uneven outdoors surfaces onto canvas, prolonging its longevity. His work is inspired by new wave typography and Eastern calligraphy as well as Eastern philosophy, which describes art as an extension of expressions and feelings, unlike western views, which focus more on the culture of a painting. As a self-taught artist of almost three decades, SheOne has collaborated with and exhibited his work in galleries around the world.
