Danny Figueroa, known in the artistic world as Wesr, is a painter and muralist born in Chiclayo, Peru, in 1980. Raised in Lima, Peru, Wesr began his artistic career as a graffiti artist in 1996. In September 2008, he moved to Berlin, where he currently resides and works.
His artistic work is characterized by a unique fusion of cultural influences and styles. He combines elements of 20th-century futurism with the aesthetics of Peruvian indigenous art and Japanese manga, creating a fascinating and unique visual synthesis.
Wesr’s murals, paintings, and illustrations are not only visually striking, but also tell stories and convey emotions through the mixture of styles and abstract figures that often represent masked faces similar to the Ukuku, an important Peruvian folklore character and very important for the development of the mystical universe created by Figueroa. His education and personal experience are imbued with a cultural clash between cultural and religious traditions among Peru, Japan, and the growing influence of American culture. This clash is reflected in his art, which serves as a bridge between different cultural worlds.
Wesr has participated in numerous exhibitions, including “10 ans” at Mathgoth Gallery in Paris, “STRAAT – Street Art Museum” in Amsterdam, “Metropolink Festival” in Heidelberg, Germany, and ”2nd Biennial of graffiti and street art” at MuBE São Paulo, Brazil, among many others.
