José Augusto Amaro Handa, also known as Zezão was born in São Paulo. In the 90s he took on his quest as a graffiti artist to give some colour, light and statement to and from the underworld. His style is truly recognizable and simple, a variation of blue coloured signature word ‘VÍCIO’. Zezão has collaborated with URBAN NATION by contributing his works on a One Wall project in 2017.
Zezão believed that as an artist he should walk the rode less travelled by exploring places that are not that explored. Working in sewerage systems, in drains, abandoned ruined buildings, in blind alleys and the dark spaces below bridges he stands firmly on his mission to make these places visible. Additionally he decided to take everyday trash objects and give them a new life. This is also part of the foundation he started in Sao Paulo. His graffiti art is adorable. The shades of blue that he uses are his trademark, an abstract signature deriving from the word ‘VÍCIO’ that means addiction. Thus being the message he is conveying, a dialog between the underground and the surface.
