URBAN NATION presents: Virtual Reality versus Street Art? New “OneWall” Project and Pop-Up Gallery by the Berlin Street Art Trio “innerfields” in Prenzlauer Berg

For the latest “OneWall” project, the URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART asked the Berlin-based trio of artists “innerfields” to paint a façade in Prenzlauer Berg. The “innerfields” project is the 27th “OneWall” to be realized by URBAN NATION. The last three “OneWalls” were designed by international icons of the street art scene such as Alfafa aka Nicolás Sanchez, Deih XLF and Shepard Fairey. This time URBAN NATION turned to a local artists’ collective. The opening event on 16 December, between 6 pm and 10 pm, will also feature a pop-up exhibition.
The trio of artists that make up “innerfields” have been working on the 18×12-meter-high façade of Schwedter Strasse 30 since 4 December. The three Berliners Holger Weissflog, Jakob Bardou and Veit Tempich are known for images that are critical of the media. Keen observers of societal developments, they usually have a cynical take on digitization. Taking objects such as a smartphone or VR goggles as motifs, they always adopt a clear stance toward “new media” or “networking” and their latest mural is no different. Their statement about the dehumanization of the world and the direct effect of the image itself will be on display for visitors and passers-by from this coming Saturday.
The three artists have been spraying and painting in Berlin and other major European cities since 2008. “We turn the city’s neglected walls into colorful works of art and, at the same time, we always deliver a strong message,” says Jakob Bardou, one of the artists.
About the Project Series “OneWall”
Under the motto “OneWall – One Wall, One Message” internationally established and up-and-coming artists redesign the façades of buildings in public spaces in Berlin. “OneWall” was initiated by the URBAN NATION Museum. Led by executive director Yasha Young, the museum regularly invites stars of the international street art scene to Berlin, changing the city’s face with urban art. Each and every “OneWall” transports an artistic position: the artists make themselves familiar with their surroundings and create an individual work accordingly. 26 “OneWalls“ have already been realized by international artists such as Onur (Switzerland), Don John (Denmark), Shepard Fairey (USA), HERAKUT (Germany), Phlegm (United Kingdom), Li Hill (Canada) and PixelPancho (Italy).
“The ´OneWall` project is an extremely important element of URBAN NATION’s work“, says Yasha Young, who is also artistic director at the museum. “75 percent of our art is still to be found outside, in the streets. The other 25 percent is archived and exhibited at the museum.”
“innerfields Hidden Gallery”
On 16 December 2017, between 6 pm and 10 pm, neighbors and art-lovers are invited to the opening of the exhibition and the ‘Hidden Gallery’ in Schwedter Strasse 31. In addition to a photographic presentation showing previous “innerfields” projects, the latest documentary about the three artists will première on video. The artists will be present in person and available to discuss this and previous projects. DJ Educut will provide the soundtrack to the evening.
