Community Wall by Jim Avignon: Kraepelinweg

With a second community mural by Jim Avignon in Falkenhagener Feld, Stadtraum!Plus continues its artistic exploration of social interaction in the neighborhood. The site-specific mural was created in collaboration with children from the neighborhood’s family housing complex.

The mural unfolds as a rhythmically structured composition of eleven human figures, animals, and hybrid creatures, arranged in three rows across the wall surface. They are connected by a red scarf, which serves as a striking visual motif running through the entire composition. It functions not only as a formal element that interweaves the individual figures compositionally, but also as a symbolic bond that makes closeness, cohesion, and mutual connection within the neighborhood fabric visible. In its formal design, the work draws on Jim Avignon’s characteristic visual language: clear contours, vibrant swaths of color, a minimalist figurative style influenced by comics and pop culture, and a deliberately accessible visual clarity.

In this way, this Community Wall also becomes a place that fosters a sense of identity in the neighborhood—an expression of collective participation and a visible sign that neighborhood life in public spaces can not only be represented but also actively shaped.
