Jim Avignon lives and works in Berlin. He is a painter, musician, illustrator, and conceptual artist whose work is rooted in Pop Art. Since the 1980s, Avignon has produced art at an extraordinary pace—by his own account, as many as 4.37 works per day. While his work draws heavily on pop-cultural references, it often engages with socially critical themes and contemporary issues such as corruption and the lack of genuine communication in the so-called information society.
One of Jim Avignon’s best-known works is a mural on the Berlin Wall, originally created in 1991. In 2013, he repainted it without official permission, together with several art students. Although the action attracted considerable media attention, it also sparked controversy, since the original 1991 mural had been granted landmark protection.
As a musician, Avignon performs under the name “Neoangin” and has released several albums.
