C-Wall by Omabunker: We are now

In the summer of 2026, the Omabunker expanded its Community Wall on Frobenstraße, which had been created back in 2025. The focus is on the residents themselves. They help shape the public space and make their presence visible. The photos were taken at the Isigym e.V. boxing club on Potsdamer Straße, a long-standing partner of the Berliner Leben Foundation. In the boxing club’s unique atmosphere, large-format black-and-white portraits were created, which were then affixed to the facade as paste-ups. The self-assured faces give the wall a strong, personal presence.

The project brings attention to older people, who are often overlooked in the urban landscape. The portraits symbolize self-empowerment, self-confidence, and a zest for life. They depict older people as active and self-determined participants in urban life. The Community Wall is thus more than just an artistic interpretation of public space: It tells the stories of the people in the neighborhood and stands as a symbol of visibility, solidarity, and a self-determined life.

The project was carried out with support from the Stadtraum!Plus program of the foundation Berliner Leben and serves as a prime example of URBAN NATION’s participatory approach.
