How ‘off’ is our perception of what surrounds us? Adam Caldwell approaches this question in an oeuvre characterized by the juxtaposition of elements of abstract expressionism and classical figuration. Since completing his training at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Adam Caldwell has developed a very distinct style using oil paint to create almost collage-like compositions of strong eclectic nature. His paintings raise questions about identity, the tension between self and other, present and past, resulting in a substantial emotional impact on the viewer.
