Biography / ALO

ALO, who describes his style as ‘Urban Expressionism’ is an Italian street artist and studio painter, known for abstract street pieces of pixelated human portraits that distantly resemble African masks. He adapted his acrylic studio and canvas painting technique onto outdoor surfaces and broke onto the London street art scene in 2013. His work can be found on his collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/6 in 2014.

Influenced by artistic art forms and movements like rediscovered African art and German expressionism, the self-taught artist who took a few industrial design lessons before dropping the class, created a series of portraits of so called ’losers’. Abstract human-like creatures that seem to stare at the viewer brought to life and imprisoned by never ending brush strokes. A person he spots in the streets inspires much of his work, he then transforms their images and returns them to the place of their origin.
