Amartey Golding is a multimedia artist with roots in Scotland and Ghana. In his work, he explores how opposing ideas coexist within the individual. His motifs are characterised by contradictions, which to a certain extent also reflect the conflicts associated with his mixed heritage.
By blurring the boundaries between life and death, evil and good and good, Golding attempts to explore the coexisting truths of life. He tackles controversial themes such as sexism, racism and intolerance, confidently and honestly placing himself at both ends – as oppressor and the oppressed. In doing so, he explores our individual inability to avoid guilt or apology.
Golding’s artistic practice utilises painting, printmaking, writing, sculpture and, more recently, film.
The theme of interpreted observations is predominant in his work: His works neither glamorise, gloss over, hide or cover up hide or conceal the flaws of his line or his subject. Instead, they affirm
the “imperfection” of any honest representation and celebrate it.
His work “IRON MAN” is on display in the current exhibition ” Talking…& Other Banana Skins“
