David Kümin, aka Chromeo, was born in 1982 and grew up in Winterthur. Even as a child fascinated by Murals and illegal graffiti, the viewer became an actor: as a teenager he reached for a spray can, which marked his start as an artist. At the Lucerne School of Art and Design he graduated in Fine Arts, Public Spheres and Major Art Teaching. His murals and graffiti are characterized by figurative, photo-realistic painting, occasionally combined with classic graffiti and cartoon elements. For Chromeo it is important that his works have a substantive depth and not just a decorative character. With his work he wants to inspire the viewer to engage with the work. His works always demand a piece of the viewer’s own contribution. He also defends himself that art is becoming consumer goods
