New-York-based artist David Hochbaum art does not only touch one subject. Neither does it consist of one artistic expression. In a mixed-media approach, he combines various art forms in his pieces, mainly paintings built on photographs and images. Selected works can be found in Hochbaum’s collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/3 in 2014.
David Hochbaum left his New York home in 1990 for Boston‘s School of the Museum of Fine Arts where he studied photography, painting and sculpture. Today, he is mostly known for an oeuvre that fuses photography, painting and object art. In these works, he shows his protagonists in surreal and psychosexual environments on medium built from a mix of wood, metal and paper. Each piece is further decorated with oil, acrylics, varnishes, pencils and inks. The result: haunting artworks that enter the viewers’ attention via his sub-consciousness.
