Biography / Denise Lobont

Denise Lobont (b. 1995, Deva, Romania) graduated National University of Arts in Bucharest with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (2017). During this academic period, she received a scholarship from a partner university in France and after graduation completed an internship in Paris for 5 months. Recently she completed a Master’s degree in Photography at the same university. Currently she works as an artist taking special interest in fine art documentary photography focusing on gender identity and migration.

About the project

Denise Lobont will examine the current situation of seasonal workers immigrants from Romania to Germany and make their life situation heard. She is interested in this topic as it is personally and directly relatable to her. Growing up the artist had a parent that had to immigrate constantly because there was not enough work available in her small hometown. Trough her project she would like to change perspectives and to build empathy around immigrants. She would like to shed light on their sacrifice for kids and a decent living they are dreaming of when they return home. Lobont would like to document their longings which are simple, basic and based on survival as building a good house at home or to provide their children a safe future.
