DISNOVATION is a working group on the intersection of contemporary art, research and hacking. Maria Roszkowska and Nicolas Maigret spearhead the radical collective based in France. DISNOVATION expose situations of disruption, speculation and debate, to question dominant technopositivist ideologies, and stimulate so-called post-growth narratives. Postgrowth narratives seek to find alternatives to the logic of existing capitalist economies.
In 2015 they were editors of The Pirate Book, an anthology on media piracy. In 2018, they were recipients of a Design Trust grant for research on China’s culture of imitation and grassroots innovation (shanzhai). In 2019, they were visiting researchers at University of California, Irvine, on postgrowth and political ecology.
Their artwork “ONLINE CULTURE WARS” is currently featured in the open exhibition “Talking…& Other Banana Skins“.
