Native New Yorker Gaia, is an artist known for his art that covers a number of important topics among society, the artist broadcasts a number of different messages firstly beginning at murals to paints, acrylic on canvas, installations to even using unconventional mediums such as Mylar. Gaia’s works can be found on their collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/7 in 2015.
He began painting when in school and in 2007 making his first wheat-pasting print of the side of his linoleum blocks. He later became a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, earning a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 2011. Gaia’s earlier works initially composed of humans morphing into animals, though his more recent works are based around more worldly and societal issues around the notions of immigration, climate change, environmental degradation and gentrification. Gaia’s works also includes the social and political implications of the areas around the areas in which his works were created, often featuring people of different ethnicities to highlight the aspect that all of these people have different backgrounds as is the fate of their lives, yet all of these people live in the same city.
