Biography / IDA LAWRENCE

Ida Lawrence is a visual artist who lives and works in Berlin. Her narrative paintings combine text and images, drawing inspiration from her artistic research and personal experiences in Australia, Indonesia and Germany.

Weaving stories through artwork, Lawrence maps spaces with memory. Her narrative paintings tell stories of (mis)understanding, (dis)connection, generosity, failure and surprise. Her work focuses on unassuming details, tiny gestures and feelings, experienced or imagined. Lawrence is fascinated with how experiences of places are molded by our own narrative.

Her visual language portrays the multiple meanings, attributes and feelings we associate with physical space. As visual dérive each painting contains its own visual logic, and makes the creation process (or illusion of it) visible.

The current exhibition “Talking…& Other Banana Skins” features her work “A VILLAGE AND SURROUNDINGS”.
