Biography / Jana Brike

Jana Brike was born in 1980 in Riga, Latvia. She studied painting at the Latvian Academy of Art and received her Master’s degree in 2005. Her works have been exhibited internationally since 1996, when the artist was only 16 years old. Since then she has realized a large number of solo and group exhibitions and countless other projects all over the world. Her art can be found on her collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/14 in 2019.

Brike’s main interest lies in the portrayal of strong narratives, for which she mostly turns to the traditional medium of oil painting on canvas. She has also explored other techniques such as drawing, animation, sculpture, installation and digital art. At the center of Brike’s art lies the core of the human being and the state of its soul – dreams, longing, love, pain, transience, growing up and the associated self-discovery. The artist herself describes her work as a “poetic-visual autobiography”.
