James Bullough was born in Baltimore and Addison Karl in Seattle. Together they are JBAK, living and working in Berlin. The duo combines Bullough’s photo-realism and Karl’s fine lines and details. They create large-scale murals and while Bullough’s main focus is photo-realism combining contemporary street art techniques with the vivid colours and masterful details of realist oil painters, Karl contributes fine lines and his “hatch drawing style (…) to create fantastic illustrations“. By choosing locations for their artworks, their intent is not to disrupt but to integrate their art into the existing environment, adding life to an otherwise colourless wall to give people a reason to look up, around and beyond them.
