Joanna Wietecka was born in 1984 in a small town in Poland. Despite her family’s expectations and hopes, she already has a vision at the age of 8: “I’m going to be a painter or a writer!”
In 2005 she is ready for art studies and then in 2007 for the big, wide world and Berlin.
Here she can nurture her creativity – thanks to some people and despite completely new life circumstances. For a short time she also dives into the world of photography and film.
The love of collage comes unexpectedly and proves to be a faithful and fulfilling companion in life. After a visit to the furniture design studio in Berlin, she is so impressed by collages exhibited there, she can’t help but put all her creative energy solely to into creating collages. The choice of triangles as an adequate form was made just as quickly. She already feels particularly attached to this geometric form in her earlier drawings.
She has been celebrating her “triangle madness” since 2016, and the execution of her collages has remained unchanged since then: a composition of multiple, harmoniously coordinated elements in triangle form on a black background. The human figure is the main motif of her analog works and her own experience (life) the engine of creativity.
Joanna Wietecka has created a Community Wall for the URBAN NATION in cooperation with collage artist Miss Glueniverse. In this 14 meter long collage “Berlin City Life” urban Berlin is reflected in the characteristic styles of the two artists.
