João Ruas (1981) is a visual artist from São Paulo, Brazil. His works are well known for his drawings and illustrations that depict characters in fantasy worlds that are placed within present-day surroundings, João’s works are featured in the URBAN NATION 2018 exhibition, ‘UN-DERSTAND The Power of Art as a Social Architect’.
Growing Up in São Paulo, João then moved to London where he graduated with a bachelor of arts in Graphic Design. Post-gradation, Ruas worked at studios in the United Kingdom and Brazil before shifting his creative focus to fine art. Finding his artistic muse in mythological fables. It is the deeply captivating and exceptional pictures that have allowed Ruas to establish himself as the renowned artist that he is, on both a domestic and international level. Legends and mythological creatures are a common and reoccurring subject within his images and illustrations and the entirety of Ruas’ portfolio is derives from issues that confront and associate alongside themes from imaginary domains.
