Mots – the duo of urban artists from Portugal and Poland, created by Diogo Ruas, painter and illustrator, and Jagoda Cierniak, photographer and project coordinator.
Their collaboration fused their individual approaches characterized by Diogo’s experience as an urban artist and Jagoda’s engagement in social grassroots initiatives and art projects.
Mots encompasses dozens of murals. Their works have been featured in a number of publications, urban art festivals, group and solo art shows hosted in Portugal and abroad. The couple’s fascination with the abstract and realistic margins is clearly evident in their works that include canvas, large-scale murals and interdisciplinary projects. Mots was part of Fresh A.I.R. #4.
About the project
Objectum
Through their project “Objectum”, the Duo wants to discuss the thesis that all people are basically alike. The associations with what one calls “my place”, “my home”, “my street” can be universal. And everyone can find something familiar and emotional in personal artefacts. Mots are looking for objects that tell a personal story and which can be the groundwork to create a “visual narration” that will fuse an abstract and a realistic visual language.
In order to transmit their ideas, shapes are an important visual language tool. Shapes are neutral and not connoted. Abstract blocks can work as a language everyone can read in their own way. And each of the possible interpretations is justified.
Mots aim to find a universal language, displayed in a common, everyone’s space. With their work they seek to shift the focus away from the differences and towards the connecting elements and stories.
