Biography / Sage Vaughn

Sage Vaughn lives and works in Los Angeles, California, and is best known for illustrating the complex coexistence of nature and technology. His colourful animals, butterflies, owls, sparrows and flowers, often in melancholic city scenes became the signature feature of his artworks. Vaughn joined URBAN NATION in its early hours for Project M/1 curated by Yasha Young in 2014.

Painter and illustrator Sage Vaughn was born in 1976 in Oregon, USA, and is currently based in Los Angeles. He was raised in California, where he started to spray graffiti in the San Fernando Valley as a teen. Vaughn’s father was a painter, too and used to take him to the zoo to sketch animals together. An early influence for his later work bringing out ‘mans wild side and animals’ civilized side’ on the canvas as in his series ‘Wildlife’ and ‘Wild-lives’. Since 2003 Vaughn’s paintings were shown in several group and solo exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe.
