Sebastian Wandl, better known as Wandal, is a German artist from Munich, who has found his medium in painting and drawings. He was part of Fresh A.I.R. 2019 – the URBAN NATION Artist in Residence Scholarship Program in Berlin.
On his numerous travels, Sebastian Wandl has collected a variety of inspirations, captured them in countless sketchbooks and addressed them in his own series of works. His focus on his observations in nature and his love for the environment. The images in these series contrast the postcard images with the sad reality: the washed-up plastic and garbage on the beaches and the flotsam in the sea, the threat of rising sea levels and the impact of mass tourism on these places and the people living there. It is a narrow line between tourism, which often bless the places, and the massive invasion of the ecosystem that threatens this idyll.
