SpY is an urban artist from Madrid, who became renowned in the Spanishgraffiti scene in the 1990s and went on to explore various forms of artistic communication in public space. By transforming, replicating and copying everyday urban elements, his work interferes with conventional codes of communication.
Inspired by his observations of the city, SpY appreciates its components – not as inert elements, but as raw materials with a wealth of possibilities. A ludic spirit, careful attention to local contexts – and a constructive attitude – characterize his interventions. Ironic and full of positive humor, his works ignite dialogues for an enlightened consciousness.
The design and production of SpY’s artistic projects is the focus of his platform, SpY Studio. Known for its unparalleled ability to create unique, seductive and formally solid artistic experiences, the studio is both a laboratory space and an eclectic team of technical specialists and craftsmen.
His artwork “24 MIRRORS” is currently featured in the exhibition “Talking…& Other Banana Skins“.
