SpY is an urban artist from Madrid, who became renowned in the Spanish
graffiti scene in the 1990s and went on to explore various forms of artistic
communication in public space. By transforming, replicating and copying
everyday urban elements, his work interferes with conventional codes of
communication.
Inspired by his observations of the city, SpY appreciates its components – not
as inert elements, but as raw materials with a wealth of possibilities.
A ludic spirit, careful attention to local contexts – and a constructive
attitude – characterize his interventions. Ironic and full of positive humor, his
works ignite dialogues for an enlightened consciousness.
