Biography / VIDAM

VIDAM is a visual artist and illustrator. Based in Berlin, the artist’s practice embraces large‑scale murals and wall designs as primary means of engaging public space, while smaller works on canvas, wood panels, and digital media serve as complementary explorations of form, color, and narrative. The work is characterized by vibrant palette, generative compositions of hypothetical characters and humorous scenes. Stylistically, VIDAM draws on traditions of surrealism, lowbrow art, and abstraction, merging figurative motifs with improvisational abstraction.

Affiliated with the Berlin street‑art collective THE WEIRD, VIDAM’s oeuvre is rooted in urban culture and collaborative praxis. The name “VIDAM”, derived from the Hungarian word for “happy”, signals an orientation toward emotional resonance: color, joy, and love are foundational, though often modulated by contrast, tension, or estrangement in order to provoke reflection as much as delight.

The mural World Upside Down by VIDAM depicts an anthropomorphic character floating upside down in an empty space. This motif serves as a visual metaphor for the current disorientation in times of war, economic uncertainty, the impact of artificial intelligence, and climate catastrophe. The image thus integrates a critical perspective on current social tensions.
