C-Wall by VIDAM

The mural World Upside Down by VIDAM depicts an anthropomorphic character floating upside down in an empty space. This motif serves as a visual metaphor for the current disorientation in times of war, economic uncertainty, the impact of artificial intelligence, and climate catastrophe. The image thus integrates a critical perspective on current social tensions. It reflects feelings in the face of global crises and political upheavals, in which conventional certainties are increasingly being called into question.

Formally, the work is based on a zigzag style developed over many years, which VIDAM describes as “cubist pop surrealism.” Curves and soft shapes are largely dispensed with, replaced by straight lines and sharp angles. These design elements symbolize an increasingly aggressive and threatening world situation. At the same time, a deliberate contrast is created between the seemingly humorous, surreal subject matter and the gestural sharpness of the form, generating tension and irritation.

The interplay of subject matter and form makes World Upside Down a contribution to the context of urban murals and pop surrealism, using public spaces to link subjective perception with collective experiences of crisis. The work thus invites reflection on current conditions and the role of the individual in times of profound upheaval.
