Zebster, aka Zeb.Roc.Ski, is a German graffiti writer, hip-hop producer, author and cultural organiser. Born Akim Walta in Mainz in 1970, he discovered hip-hop culture in the early 1980s and began writing graffiti and breaking. As a writer, he became part of the first generation of European graffiti artists and helped shape the emerging scene in Germany.
His work has always extended beyond the wall. In 1990, Zebster founded On the Run, one of the early magazines dedicated to graffiti culture. In 1992, he co-founded MZEE and its record label, which became an important platform for early German-language hip-hop. In 1995, he co-founded From Here To Fame, a network and publishing project dedicated to documenting and connecting urban cultures.
As a producer, publisher and collector of stories, Zebster has contributed to the preservation and international exchange of hip-hop culture. He co-produced Martha Cooper’s Hip Hop Files and published his own book Zebster aka Zeb.Roc.Ski in 2011, documenting his experiences as a graffiti writer and his encounters with the international scene.
