Biography / Aaron Nagel

Aaron Nagel was born in 1980 in San Francisco, California. He began drawing as a child and gradually moved into painting. He discovered oils in his early 20s and has remained hooked ever since. From his home in Oakland, California, he continues to pursue a mastery of figurative surrealism despite having no formal training.

The self taught artist is using classical oil painting techniques and traditions to show vivid images of the female form. Aaron Nagels’ work investigates the possibility of creating a new kind of iconography for the unbeliever, commenting on the trappings of organized religion and theism.

Today he is working and living as a figurative oil painter in Oakland, California.
