Biography / Kasia Dudziak

Kasia Dudziak is a Polish illustrator, singer and ceramic artists based in Leipzig, Germany.
She graduated in Philosophy at the University of Silesia (Katowice, Poland), focusing on anthropology and aesthetics, also at the Academy of Gardzienice Center for Theater Practices (Gardzienice, Poland). Her main interests are visual anthropology, ethnomusicology, traditional cultures and their influence on urban identities. In her works she pursues modern myths and legends, and both captures and creates a new symbolism for her illustrated characters that later become ceramic sculptures.

About the project

“We are not playing war!” is a project that explores memories of children’s games, folklore (songs, rhymes, tales) and narratives that children create based on cultural and social heritage and on collective/historical events (including traumatic occurrences). The idea is to create scenes that evoke traditional games and plays, but also to construct new tales and stories, bringing to life what was imagined, thus creating “New tales of Berlin” that the audience must later tell themselves.

The project outcome products will be a series of small, doll-like ceramic sculptures presenting fairy-tale characters and invented play-like scenes, that will be placed/hidden around the city.
