Lena Biresch originally comes from a theatre background, where she worked as an assistant director, playwright, and director. Since 2016, she has increasingly focused on new immersive and interactive media, leading her to pursue training as a game developer specialising on Virtual Reality, completing her diploma in 2020. Since then, she has been working as a freelance XR Experience Designer at the intersection of gaming and digital art, and has been a fellow and artist-in-residence at institutions such as the Academy for Theater and Digitality, the Schaubude Berlin, and the Moskosel Creative Lab in Sweden.
Biresch’s work often revolves around the interplay of various realities, dimensions, and perspectives and their impact on the perception of the world. She also explores the experience of virtual corporeality and has developed several non-human, playable avatars. In 2021, she co-founded the XR collective PRESS [ST]ART with Nico Parisius, which focuses on the interactivity and staging of augmented reality.
About the project
LOAD”BrainDev”,8,1 is a mixed reality experience designed for 2 players, allowing them to collaboratively develop their personality across 3 levels. The application, akin to an empathy machine, promises to make users more socially aware individuals. Based on the current state of university research, the experience applies XR technology in an artistic context to act as a training tool, influencing sociological and psychological aspects of societal processes.
