Growing up in a religious, Mormon family, Lori Nelson was always fascinated with photographs and reproductions of devotional art. Her paintings depict a world in which Christian people coexist with aliens, ghosts and yetis, conjoining religions and otherworldly beliefs. Biography / Lori Nelson

Growing up in a religious, Mormon family, Lori Nelson was always fascinated with photographs and reproductions of devotional art. Her paintings depict a world in which Christian people coexist with aliens, ghosts and yetis, conjoining religions and otherworldly beliefs. After several years of study in Madrid and a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Utah, Nelson’s art has been shown in numerous galleries and juried art exhibitions since the 1990s. Her work can be found on her collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/14 in 2019.

Nelson’s latest series takes place in a parallel universe where the subjects are neither child nor teen, human nor monster, and are on the verge of discovering their own personal powers. As technology becomes increasingly apparent in our own everyday life, it becomes ever more so in the world of Nelsons characters. She is the Director of Artists in Residence at Governors Island, NYC.
