Biography / Mab Graves

A self-taught artist, Graves spent her childhood and teen years exploring graphite and pen mediums and then discovered painting in early 2009. Mab Graves is a contemporary pop-surrealist artist living and painting in a converted 1800s tavern in a small corner of the American Midwest. Her images are inspired deeply by science, 60s space culture, fairy tales and classic literature. Through painting, Graves addresses larger concepts like belonging, fragility, introversion and death in beautiful, strange and gentle ways. Her recurring, big eyed characters tell their own stories and take the viewer on magical journeys through their special world.
