Since Australian-born Marie Larkin completed her Bachelor of Art Education in 1980, she has worked as an artist and art teacher. In the 90s she, then mother of three small children, gained recognition within the Australian art scene for her embroidery work. Numerous national exhibitions followed. As her children grew older and Larkin had more time for her art again, she exchanged the embroidery needle for the paint brush. For the first time she exhibited her paintings in 2010, since then she had shown in galleries in Australia, the US and Europe. Her work can be found on her collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/14 in 2019. […]

Larkin’s new, surrealistic oeuvre, consisting of painting, sculpture and drawing, has a strong distinctive value. Using rich colors, she created an own universe inhabited by women of strong character. Earlier paintings were full of references to pop culture, but like the artist, her work developed further. Today, Larkin’s portraits of women represent female strength, fearlessness, and wisdom. They are represented in private and public collections worldwide.
